In 2012, Egyptian choreographer and dancer Karima Mansour began a professional training program at the Cairo Contemporary Dance Center, where she designed a three-year, semi-academic curriculum to help develop the skills of contemporary dancers while raising local interest in the art form. The program focuses on developing student`s physical and conceptual abilities, working on both technical and theoretical levels, and occasionally results in student performances that are made public. According to Mansour, this is the first and only program of its kind in Egypt and the Arab world. This video shows part of a student performance that was choreographed and directed by Mansour and was presented in the first edition of the alternative contemporary arts festival, Hal Badeel.
